How to add a book with its barcode
Scanning an ISBN starts a metadata search. It does not digitize a book’s contents or replace checking the edition.
- Open the add-book option in Niblio and use the scanner.
- Point your camera at the book’s ISBN barcode in good light.
- Check the title, author, edition and returned details.
- Save the book and organize it in your library.
Check that the result matches your copy
One title can have several editions, translations and formats. Compare the result with the copy in front of you, especially its language, publisher and page count.
The catalog can supply details such as the cover, author and publisher, but availability and accuracy depend on the sources. Check a mismatched cover or missing information before adding the entry to your collection.
Catalog searches and cover downloads require an internet connection. Your library is stored locally.
If the barcode will not scan or there is no result
Check the lighting and make sure the camera can focus on the whole barcode. If the label is damaged, search by typing the ISBN. You can also try the title and author.
If your edition is missing or your book has no ISBN, enter the details manually. You can still include it in your inventory without an external catalog match.
Give each book a place after you scan it
Adding an entry is the first step. Assign a shelf that helps you find the book, set its reading status and group it into a series when appropriate.
The scanner is included in Niblio’s free version, along with every other feature, for up to 100 books. Unlimited removes the book limit with a one-time purchase.
