1. Decide what you want to remember
If you only want to remember books you finished, record the title, author and completion date. To understand your habits, add session time and pages. To keep ideas, leave room for notes or a sentence of your own about what you took from the book.
These are different purposes, and you do not have to pursue all of them. A small log you update is more useful than a detailed template you give up after two days.
2. Pick a format that fits your routine
Niblio combines a book catalog and reading log with a timer, history and statistics. It does not require an account, and your library is stored on your device. If you choose another format, the same principles of consistency and simplicity still apply.
| Format | It may suit you if… | What you maintain |
|---|---|---|
| Notebook | You enjoy writing and looking through your notes. | Your index, dates and any summaries you want to calculate. |
| Spreadsheet | You want to sort books and create your own fields. | The data and formulas you choose. |
| Reading tracker app | You want a library, sessions and statistics together. | Your book entries and the sessions you save. |
3. Leave a short entry when you finish
A session can be recorded with the book, date, time and page reached. For example: “Tuesday, 20 minutes, up to page 84”. Next time, you can pick up the book without reconstructing what you did.
In Niblio, start the timer when you begin and enter your final page when saving. The app builds statistics from your sessions. In a paper journal, using the same order for each entry makes details easier to find later.
Page counts alone are not a fair comparison between books: format, type size and difficulty can differ.
4. Review what is useful to you
At the end of a week or month, notice when reading felt easiest and which books you wanted to return to. You can check your calendar and statistics without turning every week into a competition.
If you enjoy goals, set one you can adjust. If a streak stops motivating you, focus on remembering your reading instead. A book you decide not to finish is part of that history too.
5. Keep your history safe
Keep your notebook somewhere recognizable, copy your spreadsheet or export an app backup. Niblio stores your collection locally, so keeping a copy outside your phone helps protect your reading history.
You can try every Niblio feature with up to 100 books for free. If you need more room, Unlimited removes the book limit with a one-time purchase and no subscription.
